Show Collecting

Post by dmfollower »

I have a question here about collecting shows. The way i file my shows, i burn them in wav. and case them and make some sort of cover and track listing. My cd burner crapped out a long time ago and so my question is, if i zip all the shows i need to burn will it decrease the amount of space its taking up on my comp?

And/or is there a way to decrease the amount of space they take up yet still leave the option to convert and burn the show?

Media files dont compress well because they're usually already compressed, so putting it in a zip file wont really make it smaller.

You could convert them to a smaller format like mp3 or ogg with a high bitrate. There will ofcourse be some quality loss. Just experiment with several bitrates until you dont notice.

Even at high bitrates the file will be much smaller.

Yes....convert to .shn or .flac
That will free up some space.
DO NOT convert to mp3 to save space......but I won't go there.

Actually, two day ago finally coughed up the dough for a new cd burner and so i can finally get rid of all the shows. I've been burning for the last three hours and i still have about 30 shows to burn. Wasn't even that expensive, i actually went to Best Buy for the first time
As for the B&p's, i've never really done one before but after i get all my shows done and if i dont' just continue collecting i will def. be into it. I have always planned to share but i want as much as a complete set as possible. Anyway, no more massive weight on my hard drive. Comp. runing much quicker by the minute

I have all shows stored on an external hard drive. It's far too small for what I want to keep. I'm going to buy a DVD burner and possibly buy a Zip-type drive, as there has been great publicity lately about the short lifespan of optical (CD/DVD) media. Magnetic tape is much better.
