acoustic strings

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

acoustic strings

Post by firedancer015 »

Over the past few years ive played with many various types of guitar strings. Ive played with martins, elixers, D'Addario , fender and others. To be perfectly honest, the D'Addario EXP15 would be my strings of choice. although the martin xp + are also a great pick. Give me your opinions on your favorite and or least favorite type of guitar string.

Elixir Phosphor Bronze, a little brighter than the exp, but not as bright as the regular elixirs, they're just right!

Do you have any suggestions as to where I can get these strings inexpensively?

Eh, I just get them at a local shop, they are anywhere from 11-15 bucks, just depends on the shop. If you dont have somewhere nearby then just use musiciansfriend.com. it wont be the cheapest but they will deliver it to your door

Elixers, agreed. Especially the new Phosphor Bronze, last for a very long time even for obsessive players. So even though they are 15 bucks a pack they are worth it, break them in well though, because they seem to break easily (in my experience).

My least favorite are probably cheap martin strings that suck the day after you put them on

I use Martin 80/20 Bronze Mediums. They sound great! The only problem they have is the screeching of the strings when you first put them on, but the sound is still great. Only about 5 bucks a pack, and much better than Elixers IMO.

I use martin lights, I don't notice much of a difference between them and the more expensive elixirs besides their lifespan. But they're so much less expensive I don't mind.

I hear a huge difference between martin's and elixir's. I used to play with Martin's and then I got a suggestion to switch to elixir's. I think they sound a lot better than martin's.

I usually use Elixer medium gauge nanowebs, i think the other ones are called poliwebs, and the coating on the string is so incredibly thick it almosts kills some of the sound quality. the medium gauges make my taylor sound amazing though, but they are gauge 13, not for the light handed.

I dont see much of a difference either. Elixers have that crappy coating on them. But other than that there is no difference.

I've found that with elixer's whenever you go out and play with someone else, it's damn near impossible to tune to each other if one person is playing with elixers and the other isn't.

I played with a friend who uses martin strings today...

We were playing and I could tell the difference in sound... theres no way those martin's sounded better then my elixers

I was using elixer phosphor bronze. He had medium strings too and I had light and it still sounded better, more full and brighter. His martin strings, the 5 dollar kind, sounded muddy in comparison, although playing alone I know martin's sound pretty good for beater guitars because I put 5 dollar martins on my beater Jasmine.

I use Martin Lights. I switched to them from Elixirs a while ago and haven't looked back since.
