What do you guys think of a guitar trainer such as the Tascam CD-GT1 where you can slow the music down and plug your guitar into it to learn the music?

Never heard of anything like that. Just look at the tab and play it slowly until you memorize the song and feel comfortable with all the changes then try and play it at the correct tempo.
Otherwise, i'd say go get a few lessons.

mhm. there's also a plug-in for winamp where you can slow a song down...i'll see if i can find it if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.
