Capos, i just dont get it

can someone please explain to me what they are exactly. i thought i understood what they were, but looking at the stay or leave tab i am now extremely confused.

the tab says to put a capo on 7, but then it shows you have to play an open top string then the 3rd fret on the top string. but if you have a capo aren't you ALWAYS playing the 7th fret unless you play a higher fret? do i just have no idea as to what a capo is?

please clue me in.

All frets are relative to the Capo.

3rd fret would mean 3rd from the capo

What he said. Capos essentially make the nut of the guitar higher.

Here's an example if a capo was on fret 7

This is what it would say on the tab when "relative to capo" is mentioned

Now the actual frets

definetly get a capo, but learn stay or leave in standard....if you ask me.

isn't in standard tuning with a capo on 7? otherwise is drop b tuning or something which my guitar doesn't like much

that is the no capo standard tuning version. its my favorite caue you don't have to play so far up and I THINK it sounds better
