in the new Blender magazine they have a Q&A with Dave where someone asks him about that line. He says something to the effect of, "I wish I'd never put that line in there because I've been asked about it a million times since". He also says that it was ad-libbed (much like the "so here we are tonite, you and I together" opener of "Say Goodbye") when in the studio late one night doing the vocals with Steve Lillywhite he sang it as a joke, but Lillywhite loved and insisted on keeping it.
