Big Eye to Bartender=Standard tuning to Drop D How???????
I would like to be able to play Big Eye and go straight to Bartender like Dave does however thats going from standard tuning to drop d. Does anyone know how to avoid this problem by using an alternate way to play one of the songs or something??? Please Help. thanks in advance

Kanter just put up a Standard tuned Bartender, so you don't have to tune down after Big Eyed Fish.cpowell21 wrote:I would like to be able to play Big Eye and go straight to Bartender like Dave does however thats going from standard tuning to drop d. when dave plays it he switches guitars during the jam. he lets leroi and boyd play their parts and he switches. if you listen on busted stuff and on live ones like folsom you don't hear any guitar during the jam in the middle. this makes it hard to replicate, however, when you're just playing by yourself. i usually play big eyed fish in drop-d when i want to do it.you just have to mute the low-e a lot and play all the notes on it 2 frets higher. i guess you could also play bartender in standard, except i don't like the way the song sounds without that low d in the verse part, it just sounds empty.

I also agree with this. with something like DDTW you lose a little on the low end but it isn't as noticible as on Bartender. I am on a huge fan of Bartender in standard tuning because w/o that low E, as you said, it sounds kinda empty. It can still sound good though and is def your best alternative to playing BEF -> Bartender. I mean, that is unless you have 2 guitars to sparemadtadder wrote:i guess you could also play bartender in standard, except i don't like the way the song sounds without that low d in the verse part, it just sounds empty.

yeah, i suppose that could work. you would have to do some quick damn tuning though. plus, you would have to play your low e while it's being tuned down and it sounds like shit. the way i would do it, if i were to do it, is to have one guitarist already in drop d during bef, then have him strum either the x5403x or the bartender verse while you tune down. of course, thats only if you're playing with more than just yourself.

Playing Bartender in standard is not an option, in my opinion. You definitely need that low E in that song...
I can go to drop D quick, with just one turn. I usually just check before starting to play to see where the little knob thingie is in drop D, then I play Big Eyed Fish in standard, and can go to drop D lightning quick, remembering how much to turn the knob.

When I play the outro to BEF into Bartender I jump from that last chord to the D-chord that he plays for GIG, but I hammer it instead of strum it....you gotta do it all together so that it flows. While you are hammering that d-chord...then you pick the low E string and the D string until they match. Just alternate them until they sound the same and then you can go right into Bartender. Sometimes though, I'll play The Doors "The End" (just a little part of the song) and then go into Bartender. It sounds cool as hell.
