Phish's jams will diverge from the original song. Look at songs like Reba and YEM. After the structured part, you never know where they could go.
Its easier for band like DMB who knows where the song is going
i was wondering...

Ive only been to one concert, in atlanta a few years back. After they opened the gates and we were sittin around i thought i heard dave and the guys playing backstage. Im certain it wasnt the PA playing music, it sounded like they were practicing as a full band backstage, just on a scaled down sound system so just them can hear it. Maybe im totally wrong, but has anybody else ever heard this?
At Alpine they always open the gates like 3 hours before the opening act takes the stage so im sure they do it prolly sometime around 2-3 in the afternoon because they wont want anyone to see/hear it. On that note, last summers Saturday show at alpine was great, i sat out in front of the gates during the king of badass storms cuz i had a lawn ticket. They ended up not soundchecking at first because of the storm but right when the gates were opening, my gate pushed through the ONE worker taking tickets and charged down the steep hill only to see dave and the band soundchecking. they ended up kicking us out for 15 minutes so the band could leave the stage. it was pretty cool thoughb_fost wrote:When I saw them this summer, they started it about an hour before OAR (opener) took the stage. I'm sure it varies depending on the venue, how far they traveled, etc.gravesRR7 wrote:how early do they tend to soundcheck?
