Sitar Guitars?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

The Sitar is a stringed instrument from India. Here's some information on it:

http://www.chandrakantha.com/articles/i ... sitar.html

Ravi Shankar is widely considered the master. George Harrison (the Beatles) spent some time w/Ravi learning the instrument. George is pretty much responsible for bringing the sound to the US.

The sitar sound was quite popular in the 60's, however it's a bitch to play (so I understand). I guess it takes a looong time to be proficient on them, so they came out w/a guitar that sounds like a sitar.

That's what a sitar guitar is, an instrument that plays like a guitar but sounds like a sitar.

he wasn't playing a sitar guys

it is a rather new instrument called a sitar guitar. it is a hybrid of a sitar and a regular guitar, it only kind of sounds like a sitar.

it would have said just "sitar" had they been playing a sitar.

Alright, the Sitar Guitar is not new. it's from the 70s, I believe. It was a guitar built to play like a guitar, but give off the sound of a stiar as close as possible (the sound of a real sitar is better). Also, the song Norweigen Wood off the Beatle's album Rubber Sole, that was the first time George brought out the sitar. He got one a few months earlier. He bought a cheap one at a music store, that had it imported from India. He fiddled with it a few times. Then, when they were finishing that track on Rubber Sole, they still needed something. So, George brought in his sitar, and found the notes, and there goes that famous sound reaching the masses. (later on he had help with Ravi Shankar).

It is a difficult instrument, but very spectacular sound.

yes, even that cheap first one he got was still a real sitar. You can even hear some on the outro to Brainwashed - his last album (that was finished by his children and friends after he died not finishing it, it's great and pure George).
