when you play goo goo stuff you are making a commitment to potentially buying new strings. ive been lucky w/ them but ive heard to many horror stories bout string breakin...

Playing songs in different tunings...
tuning and retuning your guitar does put stress on the strings and they will break sooner from this. it's like any metal. if you bend it back and forth and back and forth it evetually breaks.
but there is nothing you can do about this. if you notice a particular string constantly breaking at the same point, (like that detuned high e string mentioned before) that can indicate a burr on one of the surfaces. something may need just a gentle sanding.

I got a buddy who plays goo goo doll stuff. They like open tunings, open E in particular for Iris and the like.
