salsa electric quick experiment...

Post by firedancer86 »

seeing how I love you all so much and that I can't record myself snoring and not post it, here is what I was fooling around with after I did my homwork :lol:

WARNING: the "drums" (if you can call them that) are just a computer metronome I mic'd, so the quality of them is horrific :P

I have fooled around with theis jazz riff for the longest time now, and I just sat down with the metronome and thought, "hey, that might have a cool salsa tone to it"...so I recorded a few the percussion for a minute just to see what I could do and experiment some...

DISSCLAIMER: I can't improv solos on electric worth anything, so...

Just one of those random occurances of exerimental recording, soon to be locked away in a vault forever :twisted:

blah blah blah. you complain too much, fire. seriously. that kicked.

nice use of the "drums" by the way. ;) it didn't sound as salsa as it did what you called the riff, which was uh...jazz. yeah! but it was fun. word!

you should make a whole song. no doubt. :)

HA! It's going into the vault forever!

BTW what program was the metronome in anyway? I wanna fiddle with crappy synthed drums too. :wink:

(edit: whoops, you didn't say it's not going into the vault forever, so my attempt at a sarcastic jibe really doesn't make much sense. Reading is fundamental.. :oops: )

salsa is just one of the many jazz idioms, which is what this was :)

The drums are midi via this metronome..

http://www.pinkandaint.com/weirdmet.shtml

I stumbled upon many moons ago when I was trying to learn to do odd-meter songs and needed something better than a single-tone click-track..

But yes, you can make mono-phonic drum, repeating drum tracks with it.. one of my favorites:

512312422312

1 = Pedal Hi-Hat
2 = Open Hi-Conga
3 = Low Bongo
4 = Mute Hi Conga
5 = Acoustic Bass Drum

Temp = 360

..

About the mp3.. that opening is beautiful. I just got recording some stuff on my electric.. and couldn't help but think "damn I wish I could make guitar sound that sweet." I struggle to record electrics well for some reason or another. That's what 3 layers? Beautifully interwoven. The sour note at :53 is the only thing that irks me.. And that drum track might have spanned the jam, but it doesn't really go with it, I don't think. Good job.
