Guitar Center question

Post by steveostyle »

When you purchase a guitar at GC, is it a brand new guitar they give you or something that has been played already?

well if its on the show room, then most likely been played by alot of people. there is also used guitars they sell there, and i think sometimes u can get one from behind close doors. like if its special ordered.

Usually the ones out are better because they have been humidified properly.

I think the ones on the floor are sort of like a new car on a lot. Some people have driven them but it has only 3 miles on it. Understand?

Like other people have said, the ones on the floor have been played before. Some more then others. You can tell when certain guitars have been there a while because the pickguard is fairly worn in. But that just means you can get the price knocked down because it isnt exactly a "new" guitar.

correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldnt the sound be a little truer?

When I got my guitar brand new from Alvarez the sound was very bright, then after about 10 - 11 months it slowly became a lot bassier, now with those elixer PB strings I have a great balance. but it definitely doesnt sound the same as when it was braqn new.

m,ake sense?

The woods age and the tones change with it.

If you ask they have to tell you otherwise it's fraud and you have legal rights to consider.

Always ask and carefully inspect the instrument.

I think the sound would be a LITTLE more truer, but guitars 'mature' over many years, not the few weeks to a month that they would be out on the floor of Guitar Center/similar stores.

I would recommend buying a guitar off of the floor as opposed to behind closed doors, because 1.) the store usually puts decent strings on the showroom instruments to make them sound better (although you'll probably change them soon) and 2.) any small scratch/nick, which are sure to be there if handled by more than ~10 people, can mean $20+ off of the tag price.

Obviously, you should play any instrument extensively before you buy it...
