L@LC used microphones placed in front of dave's and tim's guitars. to my knowledge, these tracks are from the pickups of their guitars. i'm not saying you can't hear the audience at all, obviously, you can hear them cheering and stuff, just pointing it out

Microphones give a better tone to the guitar. The house feed for the concerts were from the pickups, but the crew set up mics for their guitars and recorded them for posterity. And these are what ended up getting used. Monk (dave's guitar tech) explained all this in an article, i don't remember where it was, i'll look for it if you want

So they do both right? i always thought they did that so they could mix them together and get just about any sound they wanted. id like to read that article.
