ofcourse you'll just say that I'm jealous for this comment, but it's the truth so you can live in denial if you want...while it is a good cover, it isn't anything to write home about. as many have said before, lot's of people can play it like dave...yay, good for them, but nomatter how well you play it like dave, I'm still going to listen to dave's over someone trying to make it sound exactly the same, especially with vocals like that. it's a good replication of the song but a bad cover in my opinion. there's nothing different whatsoever that makes me want to listen to it over dave's version. it's just someone else playing the dave version of tripping billies. a good cover is someone playing their version, their interpretation of billies and doing a good job. so yeah, I look forward to your flames...

Yep. I agree, musically and lyrically as i said, it's spot on. But the truth of the matter is... The reason i'll listen to Dave's Watchtower over Dillon's watch tower is because i feel like DAVE does a better interpretation of it (or even over Hendrix...). Same goes with Howie Day. He is now covering as an outtro, Jeff Buckley's "New Years Prayer"... I would much rather listen to Howie's outtro then Buckley's... why? Because he took an allready fantastic song, and made it 1) his own, 2) More interesting, 3) More creative.

I think the challenge to the cover artist is to be almost as a critic and go below the surface and pull out the interpretation and run wild with that. However this takes a lot of time, energy, and raw creative power.. some people have this and some people dont (while others do and dont want to waste the time on it). But as i said earlier, i think in the literal sense, it's an excellent job. In the figurative sense of the word "cover". It's not. And that has nothing to do with ability, tallent, and what is actually there at the moment.
