Djembe

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Well, this is it. It has a really good sound to it. I'm not sure how to tune it, if I wanted to. Lot of fun to jam with.

looks experianced haha, fuck that thing looks 10x harder to tune than mine, I have a nice 8'' Toca. I wish I had a 14'' but damn they get pricey, plus it was a wicked b-day gift anyways

Found out today that my "trustworthy" friend found it in a garbage dumpster. And he wanted to sell it to me for $40. Oh well.. $20 for a well broken-in djembe.. i'm not bitter. It sounds good, that's all that really matters.

Carter, do you know how much it is to replace the goatskin? When does it need to be changed?

thats tight (your friend)

chhanging the skin depends, i think, on how you play it. if your rough on your drum and play it frequently, it'll ware down more. couldnt really give an accurate time line, watch for signs of it having weak spots or thin or damaged. i don' think very often though. god i am going to hate it whenever i need change mine, gonna be impossible

keep it dry, when it gets a little snad paper-ish use a tiny tiny bit of normal skin lotion and spread it over the skin. it'll last forever

man that was a stoned man's rant on djembe skin

It definitely seems a little paper-ish. The lotion idea is brilliant.. I'll give it a try. How much is a tiny tiny bit? A slight drop on the finger?

yeah I have a little booklet that came with mine and suggests the lotion. Just try a drop and see if it spreads evenly, I guess you should try to not have any excess. it helps keep the tonality and helps it last longer. do it when it gets too dry. store it out of sunlight in a cool place. If you dont plan on using for a long period of time loosen the skin (i wouldnt do that though, it would be really hard to loosen it then tighten it again)
