Warmoth (Build Your Own Custom Bass)

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Warmoth (Build Your Own Custom Bass)

Post by GSR »

So... i've been brooding over two Q6's on ebay... the owner of one has this to say:
Since you've got all this to mull over I'll throw in some one other idea
too.
Have you thought about a Warmoth Gecko 6. Warmoth sells all the parts,
made to order
and you finish and assemble it. The cost is about the same as a good
used QM6, but you can specify exactly the woods you want, and you can
buy one piece at a time as the funds become availble. Also, you can do the
electronics in whatever manner you please. Total feedom.

I just finished putting together a fretless Gecko 6 in quilted maple and
it's as good as any other
$3,000.00 bass that I've ever played at 1/3 of the new price of a Roscoe
or Tobias. I bought the pieces one at a time, then finished it with
tung oil, assembled it all, added some Bartolini pickups and viola. I
had a local guitar shop do the wiring and final setup for me. It's
really sweet.

Just a thought.

take care ,

i believe that means the whole body (not neck, but body where the pickups and bridge are) is cut from one piece of wood

a two piece body or a neck through body or any variant thereof. the body would be two pieces glues together in the middle. modulus, fodera, fender, lots of companies use the two piece body. warwick usually does 2 and 3 piece bodies. if it's neckthrough, the 'wings' are glued to the neck structure.

aesthetics, really, is the only thing, if it's unpainted or natural.
