Help me persuade...

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Help me persuade...

Post by i-am-me »

Alright i've been playing guitar for about 6 or 7 months now, and my little brother now would like to play an instrument. I suggested bass cause it would be awesome for me and him to jam together one guitar one bass, ya know? But he said he doesn't like it. he's never tried it, never seen it, and he has no reason to say no. However! since i don't play bass and i know almost nothing about it i cant really convince him why he should.

So, any help would be appreciated.

On another note, he brougt up playing drums. I think that owuld also be bad ass. but we don't have room for a drumset right now. (still looking for a house to move into...) Are there places where he can go learn how to play without having a set of his own?

Thanks in advance for the help

have him watch and listen to victor wooten.

and check around local music shops on drum lessons...usually it should be good. i don't understand why they'd have you carry your drums all the way over to some place for a half hour-hour.

hahaha. bartender i know you play. Could you give me some advice? Every bass player i've talked to says its really fun, and i know he'll love it if he tries it.

Isaac i already showed him victor wooten from the chicago show. ihs awesome solo to...#41i think. not exactly sure. but he has the attention span of a goldfish, probably less.

Thanks for all the advice. I couldnt use the tail lines cause, well he's only 11 years old. haha. oops, 12. its hard to keep track when you dont care! but he's twelve., he thinks porn is gross. haha.

Anyways! i talked to him and i had some friends who play base tell him how great it is, and he said he's gonna do it now! so all i need now is a teacher...

cool...would you say bass is harder than guitar? like you have to fingerpick on bass, but you don't play chords right?

They are both equally difficult. People would say guitar is more difficult because it has more strings, but that reasoning is retarded. I think it all depends on what you're doing on either instrument. I think the bass lines that someone like Mike Gordon plays kick the shit out of plenty of guitar lines, and are ten times more difficult, because you have to keep rhythm while still being melodic. It all depends on what level you play.
