Chords are overated.

If you are with and think that memorizing chords is overated post here.
All you have to do is look at the tab and strum what it says. who cares if it is A or A#.

That is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard...Way to be a "guitar player"...I care if it's A or A#. Especially when I try to find parts that go along with it or lead parts to play over top...

sure, thats all fine and dandy when you are playing SOMEONE ELSE's SONG...but godforbid you try to extend your musical creativity and jam with some other musicians, you might want to know what the chords are because they arent gonna want to stop and tab it out for you. i dont even know why im responding to this

which doesn't hinder his knowledge that one should learn chords.

he also does play trumpet allowing for the assumption that he knows music and thus knows his chords
