question regarding strumming of #40

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

question regarding strumming of #40

Post by dmb_josh »

First, I have done a search and have been unable to turn anything up. I may not be searching properly, but I have given it my best shot..

Anyway, I have heard Dave play a shortened version of #40 (Live in Chicago for example), and it sounds to me like he is strumming the chords instead of picking individual notes like the tab shows. I would like to play it as a strum, but am not clear on the progression. I am really not that familiar with this song, so I could use some input.

Thanks,

Josh

okay...the "intro" on the tab is only played sometimes. and yes, those are individual notes. but when he starts singing "tables turned again" or whatever he starts with for that version, its definitely strummed.

try and download as many versions of this song as you can. best one to help you out would be the yoshi's radio version. get it off someone on soulseek.

I usually play the individual notes on the intro bass notes on downstrokes and the rest on ups for the verse and I'm pretty sure that's how Dave plays it.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds to me like he is strumming C/Em/F (at least in the Live in Chicago version). I'm not good enough to play the whole thing, so I was just trying to get a basic strum down and muddle my way through it.

Code: Select all

Verse

E:-----------------0------0--
B:----1---(1)------1------1--
G:----x------------0------0--
D:----2---(x)------2------2--
A:-3-------2-----------------
E:--------------1-------3----
   3 2 1 4
that's what he's strumming...
