Best bass around $1000ish

Looking for what you think is the best bass around $1000 or so. I was thining a warwick corvette, but want to get opinions on other basses i should take a look at as well. Thanks.

If you don't mind used, look at thumbs as well. There are lots of good basses in that range, stingrays, american p and j basses, etc etc

i like the style of the corvette/thumb the best out of those, but I just want to make sure if i go for a new corvette that i wont be disappointed. I did see a used thumb bolt-on for $1200...the corvette was $900 new.

If I go for the corvette will I be wishing that I had gotten something else? I think i read somewhere that said to stay away from new corvettes b/c they aren't being produced as well as they used to, has anybody else heard this or experienced it?

Sam, how long have you had the corvette? Any problems with it.

Tictacs, I think you had a corvette before and from what i've read it seems like you weren't all that impressed with it, but at the same time, I'm not going to spend the $2,800 for flea modulas. Would you recommend this bass to others?

Yeah, that too. You can get Moduli fairly cheap used.

I liked my corvette a good deal, but it was really heavy. The reason why I got rid of it was that it was a one trick pony. But it was a hell of a trick. You either love warwicks or you hate them. It had a great tone for certain things, but if I wanted a nice smooth sound I couldn't get it. It depends what you're looking for, really.

I know warwick users who wouldn't bat at a Modulus with a dead cat, while I know Modulus users who wouldn't even look at a warwick.

Warwick = the dirtiest, meanest, growliest sound

Modulus = the cleanest, hi-fi sound out there.

the thing that sends me running to the hills from a warwick is that "paddle" neck..its so freaking uncomfortable IMO...i guess for warwick, either ur in love with it, or not

I love thick necks. Modulus is decently thck, but warwicks are rawrrrr. i like them, they fill out my hands nicely

i understand tic tacs' problem with the corvette as being a one trick pony. but for me, with the sounds i want, i found a combination of my corvette and my mesa boogie amp could get everything i wanted...and i play like a jazz-blues-rock-jam type stuff, nothing super heavy like metal or that shit.

i will say though that the corvette doesnt have that "standard" slap sound that the flea, or moduli in general, have. if you want the standard sound on the corvette you gotta mold it a bit.

but as far as warwick compared with modulus, i like moduli definately, but the warwick necks are what i like...its not the thickness, but the fact that there is no satin-type finish on the back of the neck...nothing that can stick like on a fender. that was always a problem for me with my fender after a while and thats the reason i chose not to go with modulus, cuz i feared havin that problem again.

essentially the only problem i have with my warwick is that you need to wax it every week or two for the first few months at least and still every now and then afterwards. also, the access to frets 22-24 is tough, not as good as an warwick infinity ltd 2000 for example.
