How does Dave strum Watchtower?

I'm having trouble strumming the chords to the jam of watchtower with the same speed and intensity of Dave. I've been playing for quite a while now, and no matter how hard I try I can't match the rhythm he gets out of those Am-G-F chords.

Any tips or suggestions?

hmm.....that's interesting actually. i've never heard someone say they've had trouble with this strumming. its about as basic you can get.

all i can really say to help would be that you play the Am for two beats...the G for two beats....the F for two...then F G each one beat.

so i guess its like Am Am G G F F F G Am Am G G F F F G.....etc

just listen...a lot. that's as much as i can tell you. listen an dplay along. keep your hand moving. try playing just the bass notes but keep them in time, then play the ful chords.

you could try just playing the open chords to start. There is a video of dave playing this live and solo, it might be from a farmaid but im probably wrong. That version helped me a little. Its real basic

He is jamming on the open chords (Am, G, F).

Maybe this'll help...

It's not a traditional strum when he jams but the way I do it and it sounds fine is on Am go DDDUDX(G)DDDUDX(F)DXXDD(G)DUDU.

Looks dumb, if I were at home I'd do an audio, but I'm gonna see Dave tonight in AZ.

hmm... jamming out the way he is it can be improvised and alternated each run through. the way i usually play it is DDD DUDUD DUDXDXDXDXD DDUD (the muted X's are upstrums)

I guess I should've been more specific in my question. I now realize what I was looking for was a stroke guide to the chords.

I looked at the video from 10.24.02, and I noticed that dave plays all the strings open very quickly between the transtition of Am to G.
