didn't DMB get their start by playing at frats? I mean I plan on joing a frat this year, but my experience with the frat kids is they throw on dave or some other jam band like moe. or phish and party or chill out. Its not like they sit their and just listen to a trl cd.
But most of the kids who listen to dave around my area are usually kids from prep schools(who end up joining frats) and most arn't running out to buy a guitar and start playing like him but i'd say they apperciate the music and don't just want to put ants marching on repeat during a concert. And they don't pop their collars. I mean the hell do people do that for are they trying to stop from getting sunburn on there neck, buy some sunscreen and put your collar down.

seriously, out of my 40 closest friends, maybe 3 know I like DMB. No one else has any clue that i have been hooked on them like heoin for ages.
wow. seriously everyone and their mom listened to DMB at my high school... Im just in college now but last year i saw probably 100 kids from my school at the concert.
i was surprised to see a lot of people didn't know of anyone else that listens to them

No one really at this college seem to like him. More people in my high school did but no one likes them to the extent I and Lynsi do.
I also have that feeling as though theyre "my" band. I see the frat guys and teeny boppers and, while it may just be me being judgemental or stereotyping, I assume they arent "true" fans like a lot of us are and just go because they like Crash Into Me or the last 2 cds. While thats fine, Im not a long time diehard fan of every band I listen to. It just seems like a lot of the people who "Love" DMB, are really just into the radio songs or newer cds and arent into them as much as a lot of us.
Like my friend Ashley, we all go to a concert last year and she didnt think it was any good because they didnt play a bunch of Everyday songs (her fav album) They played an amazing set with a few new songs and other great oldies, and she didnt like it. I wanted to smack her.

i know exactly what you mean. to people you just become the dave matthews band fan, and pretty soon that's what you're known as.

I was a "frat boy," I’ve worn popped collars and cargo shorts. I love Dave and have for a long time. I've traveled to the Gorge and camped out. I’ve been to 8 other venues and working on about 20 shows. I've spent hours and hours trying to play the songs. I consider myself a true fan and always will be and a lot of my "frat boy" friends are true fans. I hope that all the concerts I’ve been to no one has looked at me and thought i was there to hear I did it and then leave. And I hope you all don’t look at every popped collar and think you are enjoying more than they are because it could be me.

Its pretty much the same way with me. Everyone in high school was a casual listener, they liked some stuff, hated others. In college its the same thing, I have not found one person as into them as me. In high school all my friends had their own bands that they were really into, for example there was a Pearl Jam kid, a Pink Floyd kid, a Tom Petty kid, and I was the DMB kid. Everyone in high school knew that DMB was my thing and if they wanted to know anything about the band or wanted a CD or something they would come to me. So I very much understand the them being "my" band thing, because in my own little world of friends and family DMB very much is my band.
If anyone is going to Bonner Springs, Dallas or The Woodlands shows i'll wear my camo cargo shorts and my popped lacoste shirt so you can come ask me if I think it looks good and i'll let the princess that i'm with tell you.
I don't wear shorts that don't have cargo pockets, I don't pop my collar, I wear flip-flops with jeans, I like wearing my baseball cap, and I also love DMB. I don't think it matters what DMB fans look like! As long as they are there to hear the music, that's all that matters. Now the people that go to just hear songs like Dreamgirl and Where Are You Going, they all can kiss my ass. I hate them and always will!
