Question: Is there any chance of the Chet Atkins SST coming back? I always thought it sounded better than the Taylors. Any particular reason Dave stopped playing it?
Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.
Personally, I have never liked it when a guitar player is constantly changing guitars. I think that is one of the reasons I like trey so much. He has played pretty much the same guitar for his entire career. (I know there were about 5 languedocs in rotation, but I mean they are all very similar in look and tone). The chet has a sound that I can't describe that I have never heard in another guitar. Close, but by no means the same. I just thought the Chet had sound qualities that complemented Dave's style. For example, listen to a 2 step with the chet and then listen to a newer version. The slides don't "rip" like they used to. The chet was very defined when it came to that stuff. I know because I had one I wish I had never gotten rid of!

We can dream can't we?
but not his sig martin?
Not at all. When I think DMB, I think skinny Dave with long hair in pajamas and his black Chet. I think thats the Dave that got the majority of us hooked to their music.
I hate the Chet in all honesty...I bought one as an experiment to play through an electric amp and try and get a dirty acoustic tone...it kinda worked but it still sucked and Gibson is completely retarded for gluing the pickup to the bridge so it's hard to adjust the action...furthermore, the pickups are terrible...just as Dave switched them out, I woudl've absolutely switched electronics if I had kept it. I ended up selling it after about 6 weeks though...I played it maybe 3 times? Boo...

that i do agree with.... I ended up breaking my bridge and having to install a new one. I did swap out the electronics in mine so I can't really argue or defend your opinion on the sound. Looking back though, I really do prefer the sound of the chet, In the full band setting, better than the taylors or signature martin. With all tone though, it is absoutely personal preference.
