I am assuming you are installing it on the bottom of the neck and not on the end of the body. You would have to drill really freaking far or stick it in completely the wrong place to mess anything up. It might not be put on as straight and neat as it would by a luthier but it would still serve it purpose fine.smedley wrote:smedley wrote:if screw up, is it repairable? like is there some kind of putty or something that i can put into the crack/hole?

I pictured you with one of the old fashion crank drills.checkii wrote:drilling a straight hole by hand, with just a hand drill is actually quite hard. Im assuming at most factories they have a drill press to put the hole in perfect and straight.crash_in_to_me wrote:how hard is it to drill a hole and put a screw in it?

if its a $300 guitar, i say go for it. If you fuck up, that would suck, but in the same regard, if you succeed you'll feel more pride in your guitar that you worked on it.

And personally, i would opt to use that one over a power drill. much safer.

I installed my own pickup. Drilled into my $900 Martin at the strap button on the end. I'll tell you that was the most nervous I've ever been doing something by hand but I'm a very hands-on person so ya know.
I just took my $150 Golf club...removed the shaft and installed my own shaft....I'm crazy!
