So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

#41 tribute cd PREVIEW

Post by Ranting Thespian »

Ok, if you havn't seen it on nancies.org here it is

http://www.nancies.org/boards/showthrea ... did=141971

I gave them a preview of Dancing Nancies, but I am going to redo it. This song (#41) I wasn't going t preveiw, but since I joined these boards I want your guys' opinion on it (and you can have a heads up over nancies, but please don't share with nancies, I want to keep this one a secret form them). It isn't 100% done, I need to bring the guitar up at points, and down at points. I hope you guys enjoy and give me feedback. I also sung a little nasal in the song, but I did it on purpose, because I liked the sound it gave to this recording of #41 for some reason.

RECORDING SECTION! ;)

anyway, it was a pretty good cover. the nasally voice detracts from it a bit, along with the slow pace, but the slow pace may have just been me. there never seems to be any real emotion...and the song's strongest point is the raw emotion in it. this can be remedied easily by just putting more into it, especially with the last stanza, start playing the guitar a little louder, sing a little stronger, cry out to something. you get into a timid strumming pattern at the end, and it's usually that "big bang" in the vocals before the jam. i don't know, lol, just put more into it and try to smooth it out.

you hit the high notes pretty well, but that may be because you're wavering close to head voice throughout the whole song, and it may be easier to slide into those high notes.

also, at the end, right after the last of the actual lyrics, the guitar part is good, but the "shicka dow dow" or whatever you're doing there is distracting. it may be because i'm not used to it, or it may not be. tone that down, but definitely keep your outro. adds in your own little touch.

the guitar itself seems a little too loud compared to the voice. seems like you're putting the guitar in the forefront and not the vocals. i know it's rough, but try to work out the levels a bit more.

other than that, great job, and i hope my feedback helped. :) clean this up a little more and it'll be fantastic!

shit, that recording was amazing. i want to sing like that!! i'd say that was one of if not the best recordings of #41 i've heard on these boards.(fatjack's was really good too and cna't remember any others right now). How long you been playing/singing?

I really like your cover, but I gotta agree with something that Isaac said. The "shicka dow dow" thing just doesn't seem to really work. I think the sorta harsh "shi" sound interferes with the mellow resolution of the song.

While I was listening to the cover my brother said it sounds like Clay Aiken or whatever his name is from american idol

I think Isaac summed it up though, little bit mroe emotion into it. Great recording though

What can I say... I like it a lot. The shik-a-dow stuff in the outro i thought was cool and not distracting (that's just me though) - outro was very very cool. Liked your voice, hell you can actually stay in tune (*clears throat*). Um, ya, that's about it. Great job.

Whoops, I guess he's not a guitar, huh. Or does tune still apply to a voice?
