help with the end of "say goodbye" needed!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

help with the end of "say goodbye" needed!

Unread post by borocks » Wed Dec 11, 2002 10:33 am

I'm able to play the almost the whole song now, but what i don't manage is this f.... end part. The lyrics are (acoustic version):

and we'll wait here

lovers, and tomorrow back to being friends

but tonight we're lovers, lovers, love you

tonight love you

morning, tomorrow, say goodbye

tomorrow say goodbye

tomorrow say goodbye, hey

What do I exactly have to play? Where do I need to change the chords? What strumming is best?
I really need help. I'd be very glad if someone wrote the right chords above the lines and may give me some advice how to strumm and play...

I hope you'll help me...
Peace, Bo

Code: Select all

E:------------------
B:---3-----3-----0--
G:---x-----2-----2-- <---3on2
D:---4-----x-----2-- <---2on2
A:---2-----x-----0--
E:-3-3-----2--------
   2

listen to the Live @ Luther college version, and you'll get it. its just these 3 chords for the ending part. I don't know it the album lyrics that are posted are 100% right, and he doesn't sing those live anyway, well not all of them anyway. start with the x-0-2-2-0-x-x chord for the "Love, Lovers!!! love ayayaahahha!! " or whatever the hell, he plays those chords strongly during the yelling, but he quiets down and plays them slowly and softly, and ends on x-0-2-2-0-0 one down strum.

hope this helps

2)well, its actually A9, but its ok to call it Asus2 I guess. the open b string is the 9th scale degree up from the A bass note, so that's why its a ninth chord. and the 3rd (C#) is not being played so another reason to call it a ninth chord, as opposed to just a regular A. but the B in general is the 2nd scale degree of A so that's where the sus2 comes in but who's counting :P

Actually grave, not to be OVERLY anal or anything, but it is, in fact, an Asus2 or an Asus9, but it is not an A9. That "9" after the "A" actually implies the 7th as well, it's just not written out. When you see a "9" chord, it actually formally includes the 7th as well. Same thing for an 11 chord, and a 13. They all include the 7th scale degree, but it is just not stated. As the A chord in question does not include the 7th, it is improper to call it 9, but must instead be referred to as Asus2 or Asus9. When you add the "sus" it negates this assumed 7. Now, that being said, many, if not most, guitarists and guitar chord books ignore this. It is only with the jazz crowd that you'll find this is faithfully followed.

yeah, I was the one being overly anal.

That's good to know though, I always wondered what made a ninth chord a ninth chord. We only went up to 7th chords in my Classical theory I chourse that I took last year as an elective :) yeah, I knew that the Jazz buffs use the sus lingo a lot. so the 9th, 11th, 13th, chords include the 7th eh? cool. So what determines if they're minor chords, is it the 7th? like if there's a minor 7th with the 9 in it, is a minor 9th chord?
good, and you?
