Daves guitar action?

Anyone know what Daves action is at (High or Low)? If he likes high or low, I am sure he has a preference. Anyone know? Thanks

Please don't ask them if his action is "low or high". If you really would like to know, ask for the measurement.

its uber high. i have an old issue of Guitar magazine...1999 i believe, were dave was interviewed and talked about how abnormally high his action is. i'll see if i can find it around here somewhere for a quote.

It actually makes sense for him to have a higher than normal action, dave is real proficient at muting strings and it seems that if he preferred a high action it'd make it very easy to mute strings by just playing chords normally. He probably started out with a high action and has just stuck with it, his style of muting lots of strings has probably come from his guitar setup when he was learning.

yea but lower action would make those stretch chords a lot easier.

Is Action type just preferential or is any one better then the other, for instance they both have their ups and downs but overall is one better than the other?

mostly depends on the music you play. 99% of people get it low. the only people that really don't lilke it low are bluegrass players.

or maybe thats why he uses more than one regular and drop d tuning guitar one high action the other low.

i don't know. i would think he would want his guitars pretty standard. you have to get used to different actions. it would suck to go from low to high to low to high all night long

well, yeh but, if you were streching alot it could be reasonable to go ahead with the low, and then if you have somthing like warehouse it would be alot easier to go with high

I think it's low.

D/L the bartender video off jellyfish's website and listen to the insane amount of buzzing with each strum ... it's definitely noticeable.

I've noticed string buzzing on a lot of live recordings of Dave's solo stuff. It doesn't sound bad ... but it is noticeable.

Most strummers like low action ... makes barre chords and such much easier and smoother ... finger pickers usually prefer action a little on the high side.

It will be interesting to here what the crew has to say.
