Help me chose a guitar to celebrate!

I personally prefer the HD-28V's neck and appointments (and in my experience it's even sounded better than the straight-up HD-28), but that's up to you. Just play both and see which one you are more comfortable with. And there's a pretty big difference between the HD-28 and the D-28, but so be it.

Exactly. Bracing has a huge impact on tone.

yes the bracing makes a difference, and theres a few other changes, but not big ones. same woods, same make, different bracing and binding, and pickgaurd. not a huuuge sound changing setup.

I'm sorry, but I disagree, and I'm pretty certain that any luthier will agree. X bracing allow the top to vibrate a lot more freely than scalloped, which in Martins, results in a lot more bass (which most people like).

I think most luthiers would agree, that bracing can have more impact on the tone than the woods.

i thought the HD-28 sounded more like a Taylor. If you want more Martin sound look at the D-40. But if you are willing to put out the bucks for the D-40 i would say look at the D-28 marquis or the D-18GE (golden era), those 2 will blow the D-40 out of the water in my opinion and i THINK thay are around the same price... i know the D-42's where expensive i cant remember on the D-40. Anyway, if the Marquis or D-18GE are in your pricerange go for them, amazing.

FYI, the d-40 is the same price (or very close) to the HD-28V, much less than the Marquis series I think. You can't buy any of those in Canada without getting nailed on the price (cheapest HD-28 I've seen is $3200CAN... well over $2000US).

Does anyone know if I can get a new HD-28 cheaper than 1850 + 90 shipping? (My Favorite Guitars in Florida). This is cost + 10%... I found out Martin sells the guitars to the dealers for half the list price.

I just emailed Buff Bros for a price.

well all dealers have atleast a 40% mark up, so it evens out mostly, and it looks like the dealer has an amazing price, but he and martin are making tons off of it, oh well great guitar i dont care id love one too.

You really think its at least 40% markup? The owner told me 10%, but he could be lying. The price is much better than any store I've been to though.

thats bullshit, ive heard from a lot of people that own stores here that its a standard 40%. think of it like this... the store buys 10 guitars that cost them $1800, they sell them for around $2000 then after theyve sold them all theyve only made up for the cost it took to buy one. theyd be outa business in a month. but with 40% they buy 10 guitars for around $1200 sell for around $2000. they get $20,000 from sales, $12000 goes to martin, and they get $8k. so thats how guitar stores run, buy cheap sell high.
