Trying new things....
Trying new things....
I'm getting to the end when it comes to learning Daves songs and have started to look at some mayer... (please don't flame
).. I'm going to try and teach myself to play most of his material but was wondering on how to drop my E down to a C for the song neon.. and was wondering how hard his material is from those that have ventured that direction... thanks for your time and input..

first of all, Mayer stuff is really fun to learn and play. but tough!! probably tougher than Dave stuff - especially Neon.wwbom02 wrote:I'm getting to the end when it comes to learning Daves songs and have started to look at some mayer... anyway, to tune down to C, I would tune it down until when you fret the string on the 9th fret, it's the same as your open A string. It's hard to get it exact because the guitar isn't designed for that low of a note - the scale length needs to be longer. anyway, you can get it close. also try to match the 12th fret harmonic with the A string on the 3rd fret (which is a C note) then just play the low C with other C notes on the guitar to see if it sounds in tune with them. b string - 1st fret, high e string - 8th fret, g string - 5th fret. hope this makes sense.
peace,
Ken

Re: Trying new things....
it's a step below drop D...just play the 3rd fret of the A string and tune the E an octave below that, and mayer's stuff, especially neon is a lot harder than most of dave's stuff, so have fun...it will make you about a hundred times better guitarist than playing dave's stuff will though. he has some stuff that is reasonably easy, however, the stretches you'll find in some songs are even harder than dave's, and like I said, have a hoot on neon...wwbom02 wrote:I'm getting to the end when it comes to learning Daves songs and have started to look at some mayer...
