Looking for a pickup.

I'm considering this pick up here but I am severely ignorant and unexperienced with them. I was wondering if anyone could comment on experience with it. I"m looking for just an amplified true acoustic sound no effects. Would this be the one to go with? I also would prefer it not be a sound hole unless those sound worlds better than a saddle pick up.

That wouldn't be a bad pickup. I'd definately use some type of fishman under saddle pickup. That one you specified has a preamp built in I think, and therefore is more expensive. You can get like a Fishman Martin Thinline 332 or something like that for about half that price, but it doesn't have a built in preamp. I have one of those installed into my 000-28EC and it works great.

That one you picked out would be a really nice one though

Also were you going to have it professionally installed or do it yourself?

That pickup is fine. I have a Fishman Matrix Natural I and it's pretty good. I think, if I'm not mistaken, Dave uses a Natural II in his Taylor 914c ...

I'm finally getting around to getting my LR Baggs iMix pickup put in my 912c ... It's a bit more expensive (around $200) but I am really interested to see how it sounds.

Also, don't do it yourself. Pay the luthier

Whats up with the wide and narrow thing. I am looking at buying a new acoustic pickup also, and this has been confusing me. Which one is used for what?

Wide means that the pickup is 3.2mm and Narrow is 2.3mm

Obviously if you have a narrow bridge cutout you want to use the narrow pickup.

Ok cool i'm going to pick it up, for one last question. I play a 2004 Martin DR with a stock saddle. Does anyone know if i should use a wide or narrow pickup?

They come with both (for obvious reasons) so you should just buy the one you want and both pickups should be included.

Hah, I'm wondering that myself at the moment.

bighuk, if you want a "authentic" acoustic sound you're gonna need several effects. Without them it wont sound right. The effects would be, Equalizer, Chorus (a more transparent one), Delay and Reverb.

There are several manufacturers who make multieffects designed for acoustic guitar which include all of the above.
