what the fuck? that statement was a lot of things, presumptuous and cocky, no. ignorant... maybe. I'm saying that as a guitarist i know the kind of music that i want to play. for me, thats strong acoustic rythm with an egdey bite along with lightly overdriven solos in a John butler-ish style. I am NOT saying that i can play every agressive acoustic rythm song, what im saying is i no longer learn them, i just play them. when i get the tab for a new song in that style its not a matter of learning a different technique or improving my speed, tone etc. like it used to be... now its just "play this" and i can. you have all reminded me on almost a daily basis that i have no grounds for which to have an ego on here, so my statement was not intended to be cocky. im sorry if it was misconstreuedMWR wrote:I've been playing five years and I've never made a statement that presumptuous and cocky. and i think its bogus that you can feel unchallenged by a song you can't even play correctlypraisedave wrote:FINEfatjack wrote:well, considering that it never sounded very good in the first place, yes you do have to prove it if you want me to take you seriously at allpraisedave wrote:jesus christ do i have to prove everything? i can put up audio tommorrow after i get off work, but if you require a video to believe me you'll just have to suck itfatjack wrote:i doubt it.. bitchpraisedave wrote:i did that already... once you told me taht the bass notes in the tapping section were tapped it only took like 3 daysfatjack wrote:well, you could always finish learning phunkdified correctlypraisedave wrote:theres nothing to practice... ive hit a snag in my playing where i cant really find anything challeneging that im interested in... im workin on original stuff now!fatjack wrote:shut up and go practice... bitchpraisedave wrote:oh yeah despite my username mayer is better than dave... i made the name when i was uneducated

You have a very skewed sense of your own abilities. You're like those people on American Idol that can't sing, are told they can't sing, but they still think they sound like Whitney Houston. I'm not saying you suck but don't go around acting like you're a veteran player when you have nothing to show for it. Filmdude has the exact same problem. I can tell you right now if you both retain that kind of ego the only thing you guys will ever be is convincing hacks.praisedave wrote:when i get the tab for a new song in that style its not a matter of learning a different technique or improving my speed, tone etc. like it used to be... now its just "play this" and i can.

ya i was going to stay out of this because i dont really like getting involved in bitching fests but i cant help it this time... praisedave, dude, you have been playing for 2 years and take it from someone that has been playing for 6 years, i might not be as skilled as you or anything but i can tell you that when you first start playing eveyone hits those snags and it's something you just have to work around. Those snags don't mean you have learned everything you can, it just means you have somewhat mastered everything you know of and need to just get through it, you will get around the snag, it just takes time. Also, if you have only been playing 2 years and can play shit like phunkdified (spelling???) then that's preatty fucking amazing, but really man, if you can't play a song to where it does not remotly sound like it, don't say you can play it. I'm not saying you cant play it but only playing 2 years, if you can play it right my hat goes off to you, i want to see a video man. I can't remember how many times i have seen people post themselves playing stream saying they have learned the song and it does not sound anything like it. All i'm saying is don't be cocky, nothing against you but if you are as good as you let on to be after only 2 years then you have done damn good, post some stuff.Machtimus wrote:MWR is my new heroMWR wrote:You have a very skewed sense of your own abilities. i dont think its out of order of request a vid of praisedave playing punkdified. That is a pretty tough song, and i would doubt most guitarists could play it. When you say you have been playing for 2 years and mastered phunkdified in 3 days it sounds pretty far fetched. If you can prove it w a vid, you will make everyone on this thread look stupid for doubting you. If you can play it, wouldnt you want to show everyone and have them never question your ability or character again. But its all good. I have doubts since ive been playing for 8 years, and that song is pretty challenging to me. And i can play most of Traces stuff, so i do have experience w tapping/pulloffs. But good for you if you can. i know i will shut up for a while.

praisedave---Can you honestly say that there are no songs or artists out there that challenge you anymore. Or is there nothing out there that interests you that you havent mastered yet. I was confused by what u said. After 2 years of playing that is a pretty strong statement. I teach guitar and 2 years playing is still kinda considered a beginner. There are acoustic styles that im just getting comfortable w now after 8.5 years. In my experience i have never run out of material that is challenging and interesting. I have just been able to play and MASTER harder and harder songs. Justin King is a great guitarist and i doubt anyone being able to MASTER that song in three days, after 2 years of playing. But what do i know.

good point, great guitarists are great songwriters. I just dont think anyone has good enough "chops" in 2years of playing to truly play that song, like King does, and in three days...Beauford33 wrote:Even if he can play the tune, it doesnt make him a good guitarist. Anyone can learn any song, until he shows a decent orginal I honestly dont care if he can play the tune.
