"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

every time i listen to Stand Up i absolutely cringe when i hear the guitar part skip. listen after the intro G C G F A section, when the acoustic plays the "grunge-y" part -- there's a definite jump between the 4th and 5th measures of that section, and it drives me nuts
why batson is so obsessed with looping i'll never know.

I strongly dislike it. Always have. I think lyrically the song is garbage compared to the rest of the album (which isn't always saying much, but still all other songs on the album are superior to it), and musically the song is kind of obnoxious.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

He's a hip-hop producer... nuff said.
Let's take a group of great musicians that have been playing together for many years...have them play 2 bars, and loop the shit out of it for 3-5 minutes...great idea...
I think the album is decent, but i hope Batson is busy with Eminem or 50 cent the next time DMB is looking to make an album.
my friend is a HUGE musician.. and he was like.. wtf.. this song is so weird.. the time signatures are off.. i was like.. i know.. the producer.. some hip hop guy.. Mark Batson. He's a big Sparta/Mars Volta/Incubus/Miles Davis fan.. he loved the song though..
the song is about vagina haha he said in a rolling stone article that it was about pussy soo i think its a good song...not for that reason but i think they needed to make a song like this...very experimental..i think thats why i'm sort of feeling this album..because its against everything that DMB has played...might as wel try something new?
