Finish wear and tear

For a gigging musician (me) that plays both acoustic sets and with my band, what is the wear and tear on a guitar with satin finish back and sides? I usually like to wear button-up shirts while I perform, will that be a problem? How easy or difficult is it for the satin finish to get scratched or cracked? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm looking at a 314ce as a lower-end gigging guitar and as a back-up. I'm just concered about it's durability compared to a gloss finish.

I have a satin larrivee and it isn't any more prone to cracking than a gloss finish. It does show little dings more than a gloss finish but I don't it find it to be fragile by any means.

EDIT: I also have a Larrivee that used to be satin that I buffed out to a semi-gloss. It looks pretty good so that is something you could also consider.

not too bad, but it really doesnt matter, its the back of the gutiar, no one sees it, and it doesnt affect the sound. and the back and sides are really only about 5% of the total tone.

I like to keep all my guitars immaculate. I'm just concerned about scratching and physical damage, even if it is just cosmetic.

I've been reading you're threads lately as you've been thinking about Larrivees (and I'm a big fan of them), anyhow I think you might consider a 03 series as your gigging guitar. It's seems about impossible to gig and not put that wear and tear on a guitar. The 03's are tonally up to par with everything else Larrivee puts out but are far cheaper because of the modest cosmetic features. If I were looking for a gigging guitar that's what I'd do. Beat up the 03 and leave the 09 at home. But different strokes for different folks.

my d16rgt has a satin finish on back and sides and ive never had any problems with scratching on the satin. i usually have on button ups when i play gigs and what not and that really doesnt fuck muich with it. i wuoldnt be afraid of satin.

I'm not a fan of the 03s. I'm actually liking this 314ce despite all the things I've said about Taylor. Trying to keep it under 1800. Thanks guys, I'll let you know what happens.

your finish should be fine. you can use automotive scratch repair shit fo fix scratches and dings.

You may have a problem then if you are indeed doing a lot of gigging.

Belt wear and button wear along with the usual wear and tear associated with bringing your fine axe into a club or venue is just going to happen.

That's why you see certain artists only use their prized instruments in studio. Of course, they have the option to do so because they're famous and have multiple instruments.
