I used to play several hours a day but now it's 10 mins here, 15 mins there. I can easily go a few days without playing and not freak out.
As much fun as I had slaving over the thing for hours I can honestly say it's much better when thechnical issues take a back seat and you don't need to repeat a riff 8000 times to "get it".

i broke my right hand last year and was in a cast for 3 weeks. after it came off i felt retarded when i played cause my hand didnt know what to do. took about a week to get back to normal. the doctor actually said guitar was good for it too which i didnt complain about

ok, they have attained a level of proficiency to their guitar playing that technique has become second nature and they can focus more an theory and style than technique...

i always feel like its the quality of the practice, not the quantity. if you sit and doodle for 2 hours you dont gain much. when you do finger exercises, run through scales, etc. and really focus on it, then the time really doesnt matter
