hey, ive found myself listening to Justin King alot latley.. im jsut wondering, the the Phundafied Larrive video, how does he strum liek he does? is he using all his fingers or wat? and are there any tabs ou there for jsutin king, other than phunkdafied?

haha i did see the video and its good. hey and ppl calm down lol!! i did see the thread below... that was abotu a tab request... my question can be answered alot faster when i create my own thread

And I don't think that this technique was covered in any of the past Justin King threads. Like, there's a lot of surface information, but nothing that really explains how he does it.

I'm going to Oregon to watch him play friday night, hopefully I'll meet him and ask.

If I remember right it's a flamenco technique he's using. I don't know exactly what he's doing or how but it seems like I've read somewhere that that strumming technique is a flamenco thing. At any rate it looks like something that might be fairly painful to learn on a steel string.

Believe me... it's painful. I've finally started to get a slight resemblence of what it's sposed to sound like, but even then, I'm not even close.

David: I noticed you have an extremely fast flamenco-esque sort of thing. Are you using a finger plus your thumb for that fast strumming thing you do? Do you have any tips on how to do that?

Justin: Yeah - Rotate your wrist as hard as you can to the left and then to the right. Then let your arm dangle by your side and shake it out. This helps limber up the muscles in your forearms and wrist - you have to be very relaxed in order to get any speed going. This technique is based on triplets. The full pattern is: down-stroke with your middle fingers, followed by a down-stroke with your thumb, then up-stroke with your thumb. I would suggest NOT playing this on a guitar at first, try playing it on the sides of tables, your thigh, etc.. Its easier to get the basic pattern down if you don't have to also think about chords and fingering.

Yeah I posted that quote a while ago in another thread.

Either way, it's be way more helpful to talk to the guy, or someone who knows how to do it, face to face.
