Alright...after one complete listen (before I had just listened to bits and pieces of certain songs), I have to say it's not HORRIBLE, but still a little disappointing. Dreamgirl was pretty nice musically, except the lyrics are awful, and same with American Baby (although the Intro is kinda iffy). Hello Again -> Louisiana Bayou transition was really disappointing, but You Might Die Trying is actually kinda nice.

Ive been listening to Stand Up as much as I can the last few days. I love driving to some of the songs.

i dont agree with the people that dislike the entire album. i will say that it is not the strongest DMB album but the standards that the band has placed on what makes a "great" album are hard to reach. This is better than alot of other bands work and its nice to hear something alittle different. I even like the electronic drums on YMDT  i know some of you are not going to talk to me because i said that. I dont really like techno and that type of music but the jam with boyd and leroi with the drum track is sweet. i love almost all types of music my playlist in itunes has DMB,frank sinatra, metallica, beathoven, and even creed as well as everything in between. i dont like rap though. i think that if you are someone that listens to a wide range of music, i feel you will enjoy this album. the band has given us so many songs and so many great memories that i think we should alow them to try new things without getting upset and angry at them and if you can get over the initial shock many of you have of the "new" sound you can begin to groove to the songs while you listen to them as i suspect the band did as they were making it. and if you cant get over the "new" sound then only listen to the old albums, you will be missing out on some good music though. sorry for the long post i am really tired and when i get tired i tend to ramble on and on so if this doesnt make any sense i am sorry

SillyPutty wrote:Also, Carter's role on this album is disappointingly basic. I was expecting lots of offbeat cymbal and counterpoint snare-drumming kind of stuff and some cool syncopation like he's done on previous albums, but there wasn't nearly as much of that as I might have liked.
yeah, but the drumming at the end of American Baby is pretty badass. but i'm not a drummer, so it might be some real cool sounding basic shit and i just don't know it

i love the album, i've listened to it a ton. i love the new tone of his voice. i love dreamgirl, louisiana bayou and stolen away on 55th & 3rd.

i have to wait 'till september 'till he's here :(

Overall I like it. There's a few songs I really enjoy and can't wait to hear live cause they will be jammed out. There are a few songs that don't work for me. I don't really know the names but I don't like that 55th and 3rd

This may be the first DMB album that I won't put the entire album on my Ipod...I think the songs were too rushed...not road tested

finally have it and have listened for the first times-
dreamgirl - was above average, i've heard better from DMB, but i like it
old dirt hill - hated the first time, has grown ever since, i like it
stand up - meh, its ok, kind of a cool little riff, but its obviously a repetative song
ab intro - love it
ab - love it
smooth rider - this song MIGHT be ok with totally different lyrics, but alas...
wake up - grew on me, i like it
out of my hands - dave showing off some decent vocals finally
hello again -> LB - terrible segue, and the vocals for both songs just sound off, i like em both, but LB sounds like dave did one take and they took it, could be much better
stolen away - but then it goes back to decent vocals again, go figure, good song
SAWG - really like this one, especially the end
HFTGL - its alright i guess

overall i like this album, its a new direction like everyone else has said, but it'd be boring if the band made 6 UTTAD's - i'm a fan of the cd, good stuff overall

I don't understand when people say this. It's as if they are trying to create excuses in their head to make the new CD sound better than it actually is. How could you not want more UTTAD's or songs like that? It's their signature sound, its what they are best at and it is probably one of the main reasons you become a fan of the band.

Steady as we go is my fav for the most part
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
