I think Bass guitar and double bass are basically the same. Just one has frets another doesnt, and then the way you hold it and the shape and what not.

I could be wrong.
well in the orchestral sense a double bass is larger... he plays one in the crash video... its hot

Not so much. It can be but everytime i have seen it played it has been slapped. Look at any Jazz concert, the Crash video, and Jamie Cullum. All slapped no bow.

You might be thinking of cello, which is one step down from double bass, and is played with a bow.

A double bass is a huge instrument and yes it is played with a bow..

You might just be thinking of a fretless bass..

Yes, it of course can be plucked (i think it's called pizzicato). My point was that an electric bass is nowhere near a double-bass in terms of skill or playing style. Just because a bassist pretends to play one in a music video does not mean he can play one... (I don't know whether Stefan can or not, I'm just saying)

The bassist in my band plays one:

He cannot play an electric bass worth shit, but he's amazing on that double. It's definatley not the same as an electric bass. Fonz would have to be trained in that instrument. It's not like how Boyd can just pick up a mandolin.

On the open wide video, it shows him playing one in the studio on BTCS so.... He's skilled, I imagine he knows how to play.

He started with electric bass at first but quickly moved to the upright. He had been playing upright bass for about a year when he was asked to play some music with Dave, Carter, and Leroi. He jumped at the chance but upon playing his upright with them, he felt the sound of the group called for the electric.

He has had so much music training, I'm sure he is well versed in a lot of instruments besides the bass.

Double bass playing without a bow is not actually too hard. what really requires learning and possibly even being taught on how to use is the bow. There's also some techniques required for the fretting hand.

It's somewhat of a rough transition from electric bass to stand-up/double bass. I sometimes play a Double or 3/4 bass for the jazz band when the electric bass doesn't really fit the song. Wierdest part of it getting used to it was the action towards the head and also the sustain (hard to get sustain on them).

If memory serves me correctly, on nancies someone posted something about "Crater playing bongos on Yoshii's?" meaning, "Was Carter playing bongos on the yoshii's performance?" Someone noticed the typo and actually thought that they meant a different performer named Crater played bongos for DMB at that show. And the joke continued from there.
