it's really hard not to bash tietze when every single post concerning the new album sounds like its coming from a chronic depressant.

It's all opinion based, but these clips sound just like the recording process was described on the band's site. They noodle, Batson "digs" the riff and then they record it.

And I am depressed actually, after waiting years for a new disc we get Stand Up? Bands change like people do, I don't have to like the new disc and I can always pop in one of the old(er) discs or browse my library of live material. I'm not giving up on DMB, but most bands that release enough discs are bound to put out something that's not accepted by everyone or just plain boring. That's what every clip and full song that I've heard leaves me waiting for the song to get good.

Not to keep bringing this group up, but Radiohead lost a huge chunk of their fanbase when Kid A came out...and those of us who have that album and know that album realize what pure genious it is. Now DMB is not RH, but growth and experimentation is only a very very good thing for those creative fuckers. Who knows, maybe Stand Up will suck, but there is hope.

Some bands don't need to take a new direction. The Dead, Phish, Zeppelin, the Stones, all stuck to the same formula for decades and are now considered legends in the arena of music (Phish is debatable). Fans of DMB usually fall in love with them because of their earlier work. While I think it is necessary to broaden your approach as a musician, I also think you need to balance that with your original flavor. It seems this album is a cheapend version of their orignal style. Just MO.

I agree with you for the most part as I love RH's music and after OK Computer (which I regard as RH's BTCS) they began experimenting even more and I've liked and was impressed by every subsequent release.

I honestly don't believe DMB the kind of band that is ever going to bend or "get away" from their genre of music.
