only bring CD's if it's an absolute necesity. if you don't have an MP3, you get grad money-invest in an iPod, it's the best money you can ever spend. they really are worth every cent, and anyone here who has one will agree wholeheartedly. but try to put as many CD's as possible onto your computer. that way all the music you want is there, without sacrificing a ton of space, which in most dorm rooms, is not a lot.

my college (UMaryland) has theme housing, but not a music theme. i wish it did, you would learn so much more by living with other musicians.

This isn't trying to sound mean, but don't worry about playing for the move in day or orientation. Meet people. At worst, meet people who will listen or play with you. Take the time to get to know people instead of spending EVERY free moment playing guitar because you'll be THAT guy right away instead of later Enjoy college, especially the first few days to meet new people!

that's how ive always been, i have friends that dont even know i play the guitar, i treat it as a hobby and i dont really care for playing in front of people that much (unless its a gig and im getting paid). plus it sucks to be put on the spot like that when you really dont feel like playing, and people keep hassling you about doing it
