and oh yeah, you'll have more than enough time to play guitar
could u find time the first few days?
dude spend your first few days doing your first keg stands, beer bongs, and first college random hookups. you can play guitar for the rest of your life, but you will only have so many chances to kick that girl you boned but who's name you cant remember out of your dorm room at 4 am.

Take some advice from this old wise man grasshopper, leave the 914 at home....NEVER leave your dorm room without locking it, even if you are just going down the hall to take a piss.
And about move-in day, there is too much stuff happening that day to worry about playing the guitar...after you finally get your emotional parents out the door and on their way home, there are new friends to make, bonding with your room mate, parties to go to, girls to scope out, etc.
The guitar playing will come in due time.
You're only as strong as the tables you dance on.

hopefully now wont be first times youve done these things, but take his advice (any many others) spend your time getting drunk, meeting people and hooking up, you gotta get the most out of your college career and it can be very fun, take advantage

Also label your cd's with permanent market with your initials so their will be no question when one of your cd's shows up in someone elses room.

Damn homies, I don't know one person at the third-biggest university in the nation that's ever had one thing stolen, and my roommate and I both have $3500 laptops and we leave our doors open. That's crazy that you guys have so many problems with theft, we've got nothin'.

Not particularly. My freshman orientation was so fruity that I skipped some things near the end.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

only bring CD's if it's an absolute necesity. if you don't have an MP3, you get grad money-invest in an iPod, it's the best money you can ever spend. they really are worth every cent, and anyone here who has one will agree wholeheartedly. but try to put as many CD's as possible onto your computer. that way all the music you want is there, without sacrificing a ton of space, which in most dorm rooms, is not a lot.

ANOTHER THING. does your college have special theme housing or living options? see if you can live in a 'music interest' or 'music appreciation' or 'live performance' floor of a dorm. I know where I'm going has those themes. I'm sure that people there are going to be less interested and more aware of musical instrument theft. because musicians know how anal other musicians are. not saying it's a fail-safe, but i'm willing to bet that there is much less interest in theft amongst people in the same area for the same reason. also, everyone knows what everyone else is playing, etc etc. so try that out.
