What does dave play YNK on?
Regular guitar tuned up? Baritone guitar with regluar gauge strings resulting in a higher tuning? What exactly does he use in order to get the baritone tuning an octave higher??

Do ya think maybe he uses a specially made set of strings? Or is it actually in the same octave as a baritone guitar? Therefore played on a baritone?
Oh, for the 7 string, can't you get a tenor 7 string which adds the low B, or do they all add the high A? I know there are different 5-string basses which either add the low B or high B.

yeah, the Gibson Les Paul 7 string has the low B, but there's also ones wtih the high A string which would be better, in my opinion. but as far as the YNK tuning?????? damn. I don't know. I'll Never Know~cmcdmb wrote:i think 7 strings come standard with low b, that being the 7th string....so u have b e a d g b e

i know he plays it on his taylor 714 (seen in the everyday video). string wise, i dont know. my guess would be that he changes up the strings like this:
E--> put on a B string
B-->put on an E string and tune to F#
G-->put on a second B string and tune to D
D-->put on a G string and tune to A
A-->put on a D string and tune to E
E-->put on an A string and tune to B
or something to this effect.

its not that much tension is it? the heaviest string is the A string, and tuning them up a step isn't that crazy. The overall tension can't be much more than if it's in standard, is it? I don't know.ticohans wrote:i sure hope he didn't do that, cause that's WAY too much tension for the neck, to just kick up all the gagues a notch like that. Well, he does have money to burn. But still, I doubt the sound he'd get from a set up would be that good as that's too much tension to let the top vibrate well.

that's what I thought, well, the strings are tuned up a step and stuff so the tension could be alright. Fuck it sounds good, soticohans wrote:ohh, wait, i'm an idiot. I read that post by tadder backwards. I thought it was a very low B string that was the highest gague. Now it makes sense. My question is then would there be ENOUGH tension?...

you can usually just buy single strings at a music store. most places sell them as replacements, i buy them when i dont want to completely restring because the strings are fairly new. just go to a music store and tell them what you're looking for and im sure they'll help you out, they're usually more than willing to help there.
