my band has an upcoming gig at a frat house on campus (UMD) and i want to do a nice long jam in the middle where we intertwine some solid oldies. i've heard bands do this before and i like its potential. some songs i'm considering throwing in now are Poppa Was a Rolling Stone and Let Me Ride.
can anyone recommend any other older songs but classics that have a good feel to them? has anyone every done this type of jam before? if you do covers of older songs during your sets.....what are they? it would be a basic progression with say a few minutes of guitar soloing then into a couple verses of Poppa then some more soloing then into.... that kind of stuff. If any of you were at the Gavin Degraw show at UMBC he threw in a few lines of Poppa during Chemical Party. A local band called the Kelly Bell Band pulls this off very nicely in the beginning of their sets.
i think it would be cool if you did that for a little bit then ended the jam abruptly with a solid downbeat and then went directly into the beginning of Come Together with the whole band...if you cna get the right sound for come together thatd be amazing
