how do you re string your guitar???

OK im going to sound like a idiot. How do you re-string your guitar "correctly" I know how but my dad always tells me that i did it wrong when I do it it wraps around once and the way he does it it wraps around 3 times so can someone tell or show me how to do it "correctly"???

i hate to say it but i think this is a thread i need too. i always restring it but i seem to think its not the complete right wa of doing it. i think if we searched though we could have found the answer. i remember seeing a good link on the boards once

Wrapping the strings around the nut is the key to putting strings on right. It definatley helps keep the guitar in tune. Also, when cutting the ends of the strings when you are done, Leave like and inch and a half of space instead of clipping right at the nut. This will allow you to reuse the string if it snaps at the bridge. You can tie a not on the string where it snaps to make a little ball. Put it back in the hole and string it up. This works great when you dont have and extra string and need to keep playing.
