Basically one person plays the D w/ a fill and the other plays the G w/ the fill.
Guitar one:
(Use some variation in this part)
V V
e|---2----------------------------------
B|---3-----------------3-1-0------------
G|---2-----------------------2-0--------
D|-----------4-----4------------4-2-0---
A|-------4/5---4/5---0------------------
E|--------------------------------------
Guitar two:
e|-------------------3-------------------
B|---3-1-0-----------3-------------------
G|---------2-0-------0-------------------
D|-------------4-2-0-0-------5-----5-7---
A|-------------------2---4/5---4/5-------
E|-------------------3-------------------
This sounds really cool if you keep it going and improvise on the little "funk" section! Try it out and tell me what you think
Wow...58 views and no replys! I guess you guys either:
a) don't care
b) didn't try it or
c) don't have anyone to play the second guitar part
My best guess is C because today is the first time in a good month that i jammed w/ somebody. That's where I picked this little ditty up. Sounds so sweet when you are flowing w/ somebody.

I think if you recorded it and played it the way you intend the rythym to be, then you would get feedback.

Sorry, they were all out of inflatable accompaniment guitarists at the store today.

If I had the technology to do so I would, but I don't.
Basically, it's played exactly tthe same except that one person takes one chord and the other one goes to the second person. You play your chord and instead of playing the other chord, you play the little riff (or improv off of it). The riff is the same as the funk intro so timing won't be too hard. It's just easier to play that way when doing this instead of the slide on the D string. It adds a different dimension to the song when playing with somebody and is kind of challenging because after playing the D chord and the 4/5 section, you are so used to going to the G. Try it out and see how you like it!

Sort of...
Say you pick to play the D chord. You go about playing the song normally, but when it comes to do the G chord, you do the "funk" fill. Your partner would do the same thing but playing G and then the fill instead of the D chord. It's really fun because you can change up the fill and have a little call and answer stuff going on. It adds a whole new depth to the song when not playing with drums, bass, violin, sax, or keys. (Or a Tim Reynolds for that matter )
I tried it against the Luther College recording - the cleanest Ants that I've got. It sounded okay to me...not amazing, but that recording is the closest thing that I've got to a second guitarist who doesn't hate Dave.
Probably sounds better with another person...I definatly know what it's supposed to be like.
It's ok, I got the rythm down. I might try to record both the parts together and see how it sounds. It's nothing special, no offense (really, I am not trying to be mean), but it's nice to spice up now and then.
DJR07 wrote:so its the funk intro with 2 guitars...why don't you just have the other person play the funk part while you play the normal ants....
I think it would sound better to switch it up like he wrote at the top. Its more jamish.
It is...that's why I like it. I know it's not like the greatest thing ever, but it's fun. Alternating the funk part is why it's fun. You can elaborate on it. Play the notes in triplets, throw in some slides and bends, or do some hammer on stuff. It's really up to you. I just like it because you can jam ants this way and not get bored with just playing it the original way.
i dont have my guitar on me so i cant tell exactly but just looking at that funk part...is that kinda like what you hear in the beginning of ants marching at red rocks...that downward little porgression for 8 notes?

yes. It's a G Mixolydian scale I believe.
