dont take off the neck, just cover it with tape. and take out the tuning machines, then you can string up the guitar with the holes left so it hangs suspended in air and its easier to paint.

im tellin ya man thats dangerous. you can hang it from the holes left by the neck bolts just as easily and you dont risk getting paint or tape goo on the neck

What about taking the guitars apart??? how far should I go with removing parts?

I think i'm gonna start in a month when I get up to WA and get some money.
remove everything. strats are easy cuz the pickguard has all the elctrronics in it, you just need to unscrew the output. then take the neck, bridge, and everything off until your at just plain wood.
how hard is it to take the neck off?

start and shitty dreadnaught
4 bolts

then i say paint the whole thing, neck and all, just sand off the frets when you're done, itwould be the ultimate beater

Well, I started with my strat and my shitty acoustic. Damn my arm is tired from sanding. my strat is almost there and my acoustic will be a while.

Painting schemes:

Acoustic: i'm planning on painting it like a mural kinda. Im just gonna make it look "A Nightmare Before Christmas" style.

Strat: I dunno, I was thinking just a nice dark blue. maybe paint the pick guard, maybe not. It has a rosewood fretboard, and is creme right now, so I want to try something new.

batteries are dead in my camera. i'll try and scrounge some up from around the house. i feel like I just killed my child.

Damn, after getting the neck off my strat you can see how much darker the wood is since it was put together. I wonder if I can get it back to origional color without sanding.
