Want to ask about strings, maintenance, amps, mics, or comparisons of different guitars or any music equipment? This is for all threads related to music equipment.
I've got the cash for both, but which one should I choose? (I won't be able to try these pickups before I buy)
All I know is that the RT has a preamp, so, it gets Active = More sound.
And the iBeam takes the sound in-box resonance... Here, I want to know which sound you prefer, if you know what I mean.
I own an I-beam, and I hardly ever use it...it feeds back like hell, and has some massive Eq problems. If I adjust it one way, I get a real low bass but no high end, if I go the other way, I get a really high tin-like sound(not good). I've heard some guitars that sound great with it, but others just don't work well with it.
I have a friend who owns the Ribbon Transducer, and it sounds very nice, and seems pretty feedback free. His version is the old style dual source system with an internal mic(whic he only uses 10% of), so you could probably add a mic later-

don't get me wrong I think the lr baggs products are great, just the Ibeam isn't for everyone. Have you thought about the lr baggs m1? That is probably within your price range-
best acoustic pickup system ive ever heard was the LR Baggs Dual Element system. very simple to use. 2 knobs placed on the upper side of the soundhole (not obtrusive):
Knob 1 - pickup selecter. lets you choose between the mic and the transducer. this is good because a mic is better for solo, while transducer is better with the band.
Knob 2 is volume control.
the only problem with it is that it might require you to do some external EQing which shouldnt be a huge problem. it might just be because ive heard it on an all walnut Breedlove that the bass was a little heavy. man.. what a beautiful guitar.
