i am sam2 wrote:wait, mahler, youve played at carnegie hall? thats kick ass...why are you on these boards (i mean that as a compliment)
I have done a recital in Weil Recital Hall (which is Carnegie's recital hall), and I have played 5 times there with the NY Youth Symphony and 2 times with the NY Philharmonic.
But that is my classical life! I find that these boards give me a release for my other musical loves and allow me to enjoy playing an instrument that I am still struggling with, learning from and not being learned from, and not feeling bad that I do not only play Bach and Beethoven. I love it here! I guess I am kinda living out my rockstar fantasies a little through these boards and trying to get the courage to perform some things I am not totally well versed in.
I have done a lot for a 21 year old, but I feel it was all limited. I wanna learn the ways of other musics. I have a jazz combo and play in a symphony orchestra. Why can't I jam out on guitar too? You guys are helping me a lot with the inspiration! 8)

everyone calm down - i don't agree with playing all dave songs in a band, but it doesnt mean we gotta jump down his throat - at the same time, James you gotta understand where everyone here is coming from, and not to overreact, although it is a bit odd for you to be a DMB-based band and not to have heard or be able to play half of their music
why is it odd that he cannot play half of dave's music. i'm sorry not everyone jacks off to dave's music and has a fetish to learn all his tunes. and why is it odd that he comes to fucking DMBTABS.COM to ask for setlist advice for his dmb cover band.

hey moron, if you arre in a cover band that usually (99% of the time) means that you can play all or a large amount of the band's collection. Otherwise you are just some jack offs that can play some songs by a band.

I play double bass in the symphony orchestras I am in. I sub with the NY Phil and MET Opera while in NY and do some freelance work during my time in Germany.
It really is a wonderful experience and it is nice that all the hours I practiced and the missing out on my entire HS social life was worth it. Thanks for the kudos. I work hard, and with that work came these amazing chances. I never take them lightly and they never get dull!

AWWWW! Man Why???
I'm sorry about this thread...
That's all I can add... Excuse me.
What's important here is that even if we are only 4 on the stage, we're not professionals and even if we only play DMB covers, we're all getting a lot of fun doin' it. This is a big deal to reproduce a bit the sound of the DMB, and we're trying, getting better days after days at playin' our instruments.
I only wanted some advices on which tunes I should try to do with this band's setup.

thats cool that you are so passionate about playing DMB, but if you really want to get better at your instruments, then perhaps you should branch out a little, you don't necessarily have to perform non-DMB tunes, but i think that learning some other styles would actually help you make the DMB songs you perform your own, and it never hurts to try other things
I know, but if we love it? Should we stop here?
I don't think so. And Dave is good enough to make me learn a lot.
I'm not a fanatic you know
I don't sleep with a dave miniature beside me
