Mayer needs to ditch the fucking body is a wonderland and go straight blues.
The pussification of America has to stop, and people need to listen to real music
A: you are a complete moron
B: what the fuck do you care what other people listen to?
C: you are a complete moron
D: This isnt a pissing match, no one gives a shit who is a better guitarist than the next guy because that is 100% based on opinion.
E: Go troll somwhere else
F: you are a complete moron 7: Profit
Mayer is very good at playing blues. But, I can't see him going straight blues.
Think of it this way. Right now, young girls are paying the mans way by buying his albums with songs like Your Body Is A Wonderland and Daughters on them, and going to see his shows where he plays those songs. These girls most likely are using the restroom or just talking on their cell phones during any blues breaks at his concerts. If he released a blues album, whether it was 100% original or had some SRV or Clapton covers, I doubt it would do as well as his other albums.
If I were him, I would stick with the sure thing, the music he makes now. That is what the masses like and respond to and honestly, aside from Daughters, I think the man has good songs.
He obviously still gets his Ya Yas out with the blues thing with other appearances like I've seen on TV, or just at his concerts. Somewhere down the road I could see him releasing a blues album, may a collaboration with a few different artists or something, but I doubt he would ever go straight blues. The money is not in blues music in 2005.

So?
Its sad but true. I'd personally think it awesome if he did a "Me and Mr. Johnson" type album.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

FUCK YEAH! not just any guitarist makes it into my avatar i'm going to see that crazy bastard on April Fools. now THAT is a motherfucker who can "lay it down." his albums stuff is okay, but seeing him live is a totally different experience. ESPECIALLY when he goes off on some Little Wing or Romeo & Juliet 8)
but my thoughts on the mayer thing: i'm gonna stay out of all the bickering and just say that i like mayer's acoustic stuff alot. clarity, neon, and why georgia are a few of my fav's that he plays solo acoustic. i'm a huge fan of the blues, and i keep XM locked on Bluesville at work, but I'm sad to say that i haven't been able to find the ACL with mayer and buddy guy...i would LOVE to see that!
for you other blues enthusiasts, check out Joe Bonamassa...his cd Blues Deluxe is chock full of awesome...well...blues...

Sorry, I didn't make my point very clear. Since the majority of his fans want to hear pop songs like Wonderland and Daughters, the majority of his fans would probably not be interested in a straightforward blues album. Therefore Aware records would probably not back it.
So if he was to put out a blues album, he would most likely do it on his own, not as a major radio/MTV type release. Too many people that tune into MTV are wanting to see 50 Cent or whatever other shit they have on there now, MTV is not going to play a 10 minute blues jam on TRL.

if you think mayer is excellent, you need to see kelsey play (he kicks mayers ass).
Although i have nothing against Mayer, it pisses me off to no end when i hear one of his sell-out chick-pop-rock songs, because he is capable of so much better
LISTEN STUPID ASS.
First of all, you ARE ignorant. (yem )
SECOND of all, get off of Beauford because he's right-- mayer feels the music and his solo's are awesome.
AND THIRD..
MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITION.
Its a fucking art.
Now stop making stupid pointless posts about other people's "pointless posts".
If people like mayer thats them-- it doesnt really concern you. -- you can get off of your thrown as if you are the only person here who listens to good music--and get out of our asses.
Mayer has a style-- and he's very popular--meaning his music is out there and easily atainable-- which is the reason why there are alot of posts about him.
You can't deny that he is a good musician.
But, back to my point--
Its not about "who can kick ass better than whoever" on guitar--
its about feeling it-- and its about that solo that comes out and its EXACTLY what the player is feeling.
:shakes head and leaves thread::
If you only listen to artists that "can beat someone else on guitar" then i do believe you've missed the whole point of music in general--
the passion for it.
If people want to learn mayer songs-- let them. damn.
I know gumbo hates me but i gotta say he is damn right abotu mayer feeling hte music and the solos because when i saw him live the one thing that really hit me was the solos he did...he was just so into it and to add mayer is incredibly musically knowledgeable which you have to respect whether or not u liek his music. as for the first guy learn to play neon perfectly then bash mayer
