This is a repost from a previous reply to a post on this board. Thought it might be helpful to put it in a seperate topic.

here is the new link, when this one dries up

This is only for the 1st part of the song, Ill try to do the rest tonight, if not sometime later this week.

Im sorry if this isnt very good. I don't play Stream (exactly) like tim, nor do i think i ever will. I think i can play it good enought, that i can have fun with it and people seem to be impressed when i play it. I know my playing is a little sloppy, but i hope this can help you or anybody trying to learn stream. I divided the song into parts (this is how i originally learned it). Hopefully this will help.

Here is some helpful tips (hopefully) on learning stream

First go to http://www.powertabs.net and search and download the Stream tab. Make sure that you also install the powertab software if you do not currently have it. I think this tab was pretty accurate, and i think it is the same one from the L@LLC tab book. Plus its pretty cool, because it plays the tab for you

part 0 video. This is pretty much the warm up before the start of the song. pretty easy. I found it easier to play the fast notes on the 2nd fret on the high E string, rather than the 7th fret on the B string.

part 1 video. I had the most problems on this part of the song. It took me a while to get it to sound right. I found it helpful to hammeron with my middle and ring finger on the A string, and keep my index finger planted on the D string the whole time and slide with it. Also, make sure you do your hammerons very hard on the A string, otherwise its hard to get that popping sound.

part 2 video. Practice the riff slowly and progress on playing it faster, I found it very helpful when playing the riff on the 7th fret, to barre the 7th fret with my index finger and play the other notes while barring. This made it easier for me to make the riff sound cleaner.

part 3 video. This part was pretty easy. I found it helpful to play this whole segment with your index finger on the G string and your pinky on the B string, because when you switch from the XXX13X to the XXX36X you dont have to strech or switch fingers.

part 4 video. I thought that this part would be incredibly difficult due to the speed of the rhythm, but it actually wasnt too bad. Just make sure you practice the rhythm slowly until you can get it.

part 4-5 video. I just basically strum the last chord in part 4 as quick as i can, then jump to the 0 0 2 X 1 0 chord. I dont know why, but I love this transition and playing this little part.

Also i tend to enjoy playing this song faster than the L@LLC version. I think it sounds more impressive, (not that it isnt in the first place) to play it faster. If you download tims live shows at archive.org, every time he plays stream it is different, some times faster than others and differnt parts too. Just have fun with it and good luck.

part 2

Okay, here are the rest of the videos

part 5 - This part is pretty much pure improv. Just play the D mixolydian scale quickly. I know mine is quite sloppy, because i need to practice more. Also make sure you do the three chords every now and then, it kinda sets the pace for the fast runs. I divided this part into 2 sections because i was going to redo it from the first zip file , but it was late and im just lazy.

part 6 - Before i get to this part i do a fast little run (which sounds crappy), which is basically XX5h7XX XX5h7XX really quickly and climb each fret until you hit the 10th fret. Now this part i do differently than L@LLC album pretty much the same strumming , just i dont do what the tab says, mainly cause i cant do it. what i do is on 2nd part of it where it goes XX12,12,XX XX10,10XX is i strum that part then play the 5th,6th, and 7th fret on the low E string quickly then repeat. Check the vid to see what i mean. On the next rhythm i do the rhythm , then play the 12th, 11th, and 10th fret descending on the low E. And finally on the last rhythm i play the 10th, 11th and 12th fret on the low E. Just check the video for reference. I find this pretty easy to play it the way i do, and it sounds like alot more is going on than really is

part 7 - this is just the 3 chrods you play in part 5, just descending and a different rhythm

zep medley - I added this because if you download some of his shows where he plays this, tim sometimes adds this in, and its really cool. Part 1 is the first part of kashmir part 2 is the 2nd part of kashmir and the 3rd is no quarter. If you search the message boards at http://www.timreynolds.com they have a somewhat complete tab for this part , though i found errors in it. if i get time ill fix the tab. Keep in mind, tim plays it a little different than a led zeppelin, just try to figure it out from the vid. You can add this part in at any time durning the song. I usually like to do it after part 4 or part 7

part 8- this part the harmonics would be looped on a dl-4 or dd-5 or whatever you use. Pretty easy , just follow the tab.

part 9- just practice the rhythm, nothing too complicated

part 10 - same, just practice the rhythm, and your done.

Good luck

If you can't find the pwertab software by typing in google: "powertab software" then I suggest you don't try to learn Stream. :P

Just go to timmy's site.
Or there's one here on the main site.
Thanks for the Vids man. I've been sucking at that song for years now, but i'm getting a little better everyday.
