Experience question for all bassists here

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

I had the Rondo/SX 57 P-bass for a while. It isn't set up very well out of the box, but tweak the truss rod and the saddles and change the strings and you've got a pretty decent bass. Better than you'd expect for the price.

I've been playing for around 10 years. I started as a strictly classical player, but now I play a lot of jazz as well....BUT upright is MY game 8)

I played with an upright bassist at a school show, the dude rocked the whole place with a plucked bass solo.. THEN.. a bowed solo. it was awesome.
We did some jazz tunes.
I respect upright bassists to no end. mahler is awesome because he is the only upright bassist.

I have a question for all you bass players. If you dont play in a band, What do you do with your bass? Just play riffs?

I am not being sarcastic either. For example, If Im at a party & there is a guitar there I can play, people sing & have a good time. Whereas, if i was a Bass player that wouldnt be possible.

Help me out here folks.

yeah that is true about being at a party and whatnot. thats the thing, no one wants to hear the bass sittin around the campfire, including me(and i play). im in a band, but when we arent jammin, i just try to jam with myself...if i can make myselt have a good time, hopefully im better off with the group...

I love my double bass, and have been searching for 5 years to find any guitar style bass that comes close, and none does. I say just stick a kickass pickup (removable, of course) on an upright and play with that!

As for the party situation, invite me to the next one, sit a double bass in the corner, and watch as I wow you with everything from Bach and Mozart to some kickass walking bass lines WITH added solos (I'm talkin the walking line WHILE jumping into high positions to solo and never losing the tempo in the walk).

Bass players rule! And we are SO underappreciated!

indeed. In classical circles it is called String Bass or Double bass, but it is referred to as an Accoustic Upright or simply Upright by the jazzers. Don't ask me why we cannot all just agree on what to call the thing!
