Simple, But Damn Cool?

Post by Elliottman »

ive been playing guitar now for about a year, i taught myself, so ive just been learing some Dave Tunes and other tunes. But i would really like to learn something that sounds pretty cool. Something jazzy or Bluesy? Something that people will say, yeah that sounds cool :D But if possible at the same time, something pretty simple and straight forward? Is this asking too much?
If anyone has something that would be cool. Thanks

Lynard Skynard : Gimmie Three Steps
Lynard Skynard : Tuesday's Gone (i love this one, it is the song that is the intro to Happy Gilmore. just real slow bends and scales. really easy).

Clapton : Layla (pretty easy if you practice it, and the solo is pretty straight foward).

Ozzy Osbourne : Crazy Train (another one fo the first songs i learned, pretty fun to play)

This is a simple penatonic also known as the blues scale. Learn to play this fluently up and down and just play random notes from it in any postition. Sounds amazing but is so simple.

Whenever you get the hang of it full strum it but mute the other strings so it sounds fuller and is easier to move around then just straight picking.

Simplicity when done right sounds the best. See Bob Dylan's guitar playing for an example. His technique is really quite good, but he's not doing anything amazing.

I have never seen a man who can play C,G,D so many different ways. I always thought his stuff is easy to play becasue of thebasic chord structures but his rythym & technique always make it much harder than what it appears.

Shelter from the Storm is a good example. I think it's just G & D but he makes it sound so much fuller, & tricks you into thinking he is playing more Chords than he actually is.

The main riff to "First Tube" by Phish is pretty easy to play, and it sounds cool.
